What is Tru Copy / Paste?

Tru Copy/Paste is a SharePoint App that works with SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint Online (Office 365). You can install it from the SharePoint App store. It allows users to copy files from a source location and paste them into a destination location much like traditional copy and paste features in Windows and other OS's. This feature was never available in SharePoint and it required users to open a library in Explorer View in order to move files around.

 

Do I need Office 365 to use it?

You can use it with SharePoint Online but it also works with On premise SharePoint 2013 deployments as well. It will not work with SharePoint 2010.

 

How do I set it up?

Go to the Getting Started for instructions on how to set it up.

 

Are there any limitations?

The app has a free tier of use per month of 30 file copies per month. You may upgrade that limit of copies and pastes you will need to upgrade to a paid plan. Team plan will provide you with a 2,500 copies /month limit and Business Plan with a 10,000 / month limit. If you need to go beyond that its at increments of 10,000 @ $600/years.

 

The app is also designed for end users to copy files around. Some may use the tool for migrations or moving large and many files to different locations. For copying large amount of files 1000 we recommend you use Tru Migrate (a feature of Tru Copy currently in beta).

 

Tru Copy Soft Limits (Guidelines)

1. Around 50 MB of data size copies at a time.

2. About 1000 Number of Files to be copied at a time.

 

Tru Migrate Limits & Features

1. Migrate large number of files
2. Migrate without timeout issues
3. Preserver version history as you migrate, regardless of destination.
4. Preserver Modified By, Modified, Created By, and Created fields.
5. Limits are not yet defined as this Tru Migrate is in Beta (estimated at 50 GB / 100,000 files).

Can I copy between sites?

Yes. It will allow you to copy between any two sites even if they are in different site collections.

 

Can I copy between site collections?

Yes. It will allow you to copy files between site collections.

 

Can I copy large number of files and huge files?

Yes. Use the Tru Migrate tool to do so. Tru Migrate is currently in beta so contact us.

What kind of lists does copy/paste support?

Only files are supported. No list items are supported.

 

Are history or permissions copied as well?

Yes. Version history is copied when an item is moved within the same site or library. However if an item is copied it does not copy its version history. Note that this is only supported when copying withing the same site at the moment.

Are Properties and meta data of documents copied to the destination as well

Yes. There is an option to copy over the metadata and column values with the document library. This feature is supported when copying from any source to destination. It requires that the column names and types match. Read more here.

 

Does the App read any of my files?

The app does not read the contents of the files, transfer any files out of your site or stores any content anywhere. The app reads the IDs of the site to complete the copy and paste operations.

 

Does it work with OneDrive and OneDrive for Business (OD4B)

Yes. The copy and paste feature are available in OneDrive and personal sites. Here are instructions on how to complete this.

 

Can I deploy this to many sites at once
